Projects

The ACJ's mission is wide and ambitious. Since we first set out in early 2006, we have initiated a number of projects, distinct from each other, yet related in their intent.

Bringing Together Local Journalists

The ACJ is hosting monthly reporter nights and other events aimed at building a coherent small newspaper community for all to benefit from. Community Reporter Nights happen every last Friday at a different local bar each month. The idea isn't necessarily to talk business or make pitches, but just to get to know each other and enjoy an cold one after work.

The Boston Bee Network

The Bee network is a multi-phased, web-based project that aims to build websites and cooperation among Boston's locally-owned and owner-operated neighborhood and cultural newspapers, radio shows, and cable access TV news programs. We believe that local ownership and owner-operation ensure accountability and care in a newspapers editorial and advertising content.

The first of these websites is the Jamaica Plain Gazette, launched in September, 2006.

Media Education

The first ACJ sponsored workshops geared towards educating and improving skills for local reporters and those who aspire to become writers, radio producers and television news broadcasters will be appearing soon. Keep an eye on our site or sign up to be notified by e-mail when they are scheduled here.
